With the wedding season coming to a close for 2017, I took a look back at a few of the top looks from the summer and found a new (old) trend that I simply LOVE! I am so glad this classic look is back. Here’s what I’m talking about and how to make it work for you.
Miranda Kerr rocked this stunning custom gown from Dior. Everything about it is perfect, the creamy colour, the subtle applique, and the way it fits her like a glove.
The ‘society wedding of the year’ found Pippa Middleton stunning her gown designed by Giles Deacon. The lace, the sleeves, the simplicity…I couldn’t take my eyes off her!
Kerr admitted that the inspiration for her gown came from the 1956 ‘Wedding of the Century’, when Grace Kelly married Prince Rainier III of Spain. This wedding, and her dress, were talked about and replicated for years to come.
And finally, from one of my all time favourite films, the gown featured on the Sound of Music shows that this classic style has been around for a while. Filmed in 1965, this story is set in ‘the last golden days of the thirties’. Julie Andrews stuns in this simple and sophisticated gown designed by Dorothy Jeakins.
Get The Look
There’s good news! There’s a reason this style is so classic…it looks great on everyone! The high neckline is elegant, and classic and modern at the same time. If you have a large bust, just avoid the straight across the neck look. The sleeves offer a more secure fit than a strapless gown and help cover up any arm insecurities you may have. The full a-line skirt is stunning and has the added benefit of covering whatever lies underneath. So you can have this classic look, still feel comfortable and flatter any body type all in the same dress! What’s not to love?!
